Mission Brief

Work with Frontier Advertising to develop a custom built social network for beyondblue & Movember as an online equivalent to the Australian Men’s Sheds.

The social network site must provide a unified single sign in for members to access discussion forums, online chat, private messaging and customisable profile pages. As well as allow administrators to manage site content, manage and moderate the discussion forums and member accounts.

Objectives

  • Dicussion forum with special requirements to support moderated and unmoderated sections, a revision history for each post to allow moderators to approve, edit and review each revision for a post
  • Search for members by name or interest
  • Customisable member profile pages which allow members to add other members as friends
  • Private messaging for members who are friends
  • Accessibility features to support members with impairments
  • Content management system to support multiple page layouts with multiple editable areas
  • News and events section management
  • Member management and activity logging

Results

The Shed Online officially launched in December 2010 backed by a significant advertising campaign and the support of beyondblue, Movember and the Australian Men’s Shed Association. It remained an active community website with over 17,000 members up until 2016 and received more than 1.4 million visits to the website.
